Lahore-Sheikhupura-Kasur is the second-densest paper and packaging cluster in Pakistan after Faisalabad textiles. Lahore mill water is canal-fed (BRBD canal, Ravi tributaries) with hardness 180–280 ppm and alkalinity sometimes pushing 350 ppm. That feedwater chemistry pushes paper machines toward neutral/alkaline papermaking, where cationic polymer demand is structurally higher than acid-rosin systems.
Sludge dewatering at the ETP back-end is the second consumption point: dewatered cake from belt presses or decanters needs CPAM at 1–10 kg per dry-tonne. With 2024 power tariffs, sites that get dryer cake out of the centrifuge see real numbers on the disposal-tonnage bill.

- Wet-end (retention/drainage): dosed into the thick stock or fan-pump suction. Bridges fines and fillers onto the long-fibre fraction. Improves first-pass retention 8–15 points, drains the wire faster, and lifts couch dryness. Dose 0.2–0.6 kg per dry-tonne paper.
- ETP sludge dewatering: dosed into the conditioned sludge ahead of the belt press or decanter centrifuge. Charge-neutralises and bridges into a dense floc that releases water cleanly under press. Dose 1–10 kg per dry-tonne sludge depending on solids.
- Polymer make-up: in-line polymer make-up unit (PMU) or batch tank, 0.1–0.3% mother solution, 30–60 min ageing before metering pump, 0.05–0.1% working solution at the dose point.
