Why a refinery cooling loop kills cheap inhibitor programs
Refinery cooling water sees the worst combination in Pakistani industry: hot process side (90–110 °C skin temperature on overhead condensers and pump-seal coolers), aggressive makeup chemistry from KW&SB blends, intermittent hypochlorite shocks for legionella control, and brass / admiralty tubes in older condenser bundles. A flat HEDP-only inhibitor fails on two of those failure modes simultaneously — phosphate reversion under shock-load, and de-zincification of yellow-metal tubes when zinc is dosed low. AAS programs sit on a phosphonate-zinc-azole balance specifically tuned against PRL / PARCO / ARL feedwater profiles.
